]Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) conduct an examination for the post of Assistant Section Officer(ASO). It is a Group B post in the Odisha Secretariat under the Home Department.

Eligibility Criteria for OPSC ASO Examination

The eligibility criteria for the post of Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) for 2024 include age limit, educational qualification, and computer application knowledge:

• Age limit: Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years old. However, there is an upper age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST/SEBC and 10 years for women and people with disabilities.
• Educational Qualification: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a UGC-recognized university in any discipline. They must also be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking Odia.
• Computer application knowledge: Candidates must have adequate knowledge of computer applications. 

ASO Grade Pay

The grade pay for an Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) Assistant Section Officer (ASO) is Rs 4,200 per month with a pay scale of Rs 9,400–34,800 per month. In addition to this, ASOs are also eligible to get allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA).

The examination for the ASO service shall consist of the following subjects carrying marks as shown against each:

Important Facts about the OPSC ASO Examination

(1) The candidate shall answer the question papers in English unless otherwise directed.
(2) Only those candidates who have been short-listed after the written test shall be called for the Skill Test in Computer, which shall be qualifying.

Detailed OPSC ASO Syllabus

English	This section is designed to test the language abilities and understanding of English Grammar. Questions shall be asked mainly from the following categories – (i) Verb (ii) Preposition (iii) Adverb (iv) Subject Verb Agreement (v) Error Correction/Recognition (vi) Tenses (vii) Sentence Rearrangement (viii) Fill in the Blanks with Articles etc. (ix) Comprehension (x) Answering Questions based on Unseen Passages (xi) Vocabulary (xii) Synonyms (xiii) Antonyms
MATHEMATICS	This section tests the quantitative and Mathematical Skills of the candidate. Question will be asked mainly from the following categories. Questions shall be of Secondary School Standard – (i) Arithmetic (ii) Algebra (iii) Mensuration (2D & 3D) (iv) Statistics & Probability
ESSAY	There will be two Essays, one each in English and Odia.
GENERAL AWARENESS :	GENERAL AWARENESS : – This section checks whether the candidate keeps himself/herself up-to-date about the world around them. Questions will be asked mainly from the following categories. Questions will be such that they do not require any special study of any discipline. (i) Current Affairs (National & International) (ii) Major financial/economic news (iii) Budget & Five year plans (iv) Who’s Who (v) Sports (vi) Books and Authors (vii) Awards and Honours (viii) General Science (ix) Abbreviations (x) Important days (xi) International & National Organizations (xii) History (xiii) Geography (xiv) Civics (xv) Culture
TEST OF REASONING AND MENTAL ABILITY	This section usually tries to test the reasoning abilities and mental aptitude of the candidate. Questions will be asked mainly from the following categories – A. VERBAL (i) Number Series (ii) Alphabet Series (iii) Test of Direction Sense (iv) Coding-decoding (v) Number Ranking (vi) Arithmetic Reasoning (vii) Problem of Age Calculation (viii) Analogy (ix) Decision Making etc. B : NON-VERBAL (i) Non-verbal series (ii) Mirror Images (iii) Cubes & Dice (iv) Grouping Identical Figures (v) Embedded figures, etc.
COMPUTER APPLICATION	Computer Fundamentals Windows (MS Windows) MS-OFFICE (i) Word Processing (MS Word) (ii) Spread Sheet (MS Excel) (iii) Presentation knowledge (MS PowerPoint) (iv) MS Access. Usage of Internet services available on the Internet Communication Technology, Networking Concepts

Duration and OPSC ASO Exam Pattern:

1. The test on each subject shall be of one-hour duration.
2. The questions shall be of multiple choice type. All the questions shall be compulsory without any negative marking.

OPSC ASO Selection Process 2024

Candidates who are going to appear for the OPSC ASO 2024 Exam must first clear the written examination phase on the OPSC ASO Exam 2024.

• The candidates who once qualify the written examination phase will be called for the certificate verification round, where candidates have to produce the original documents in justify the authenticity of the certificates made by them during the application process as per the last recruitment.
• After qualifying in this round, short-listed candidates will be called for the Skill Test in Computer Application.
• Skill tests will be qualifying in nature.

Moreover, the selection of candidates and allotment of them to respective services/departments will be in the order of the vacancies available and rank secured.
