The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is a national-level entrance test conducted by  National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture(NIASA), which is a body of  the Council of Architecture (CoA) established in New Delhi.

NATA Syllabus 2024 is designed in a quite effective way as it is a national level examination for admission to undergraduate courses in architecture(B. Arch)in different colleges in India. NATA measures a range of skills and knowledge that are very essential for a career in architecture.

NATA syllabus cover the areas like drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking, qualities that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are related to architecture.

NATA plays a crucial role in shaping the careers of aspiring architects by providing a standardized assessment of their potential and helping institutions select candidates with the right aptitude for the field. NATA syllabus 2024 is same as the NATA 2021 syllabus and NATA 2022 syllabus because their is no change in syllabus from past few years.

Here is the NATA syllabus of 2024:

The medium of Aptitude test shall be in English and Hindi.
The aptitude of the candidate will be assessed using some or all of the following:


PART-A (Drawing and Composition Test)


This is and half-hour (90 minutes) – 80 Marks Test where the candidate has to attempt three
questions. The content of the PART A Test is as follows:


A1 – Composition and Color -25 Marks: Creating suitable compositions for various situations
and coloring them appropriately. Re-arranging various shapes in a visually appealing manner
and coloring it suitably.


A2 -Sketching & Composition (Black and White)-25 Marks: Ability to draw, visualize, depict
a situation, involving buildings / its components, people, environment, and products with an
understanding of scale, proportions, textures, shades, and shadow etc.


A3 – 3D Composition-30 Marks: Creating interesting 3D composition for the given situation
using the provided kit.

PART-B (Cognitive Skill Test)


This is and half-hour (90 minutes), 120 Marks Test where the candidate has to appear for an online
test. It shall have two type of Questions viz., B1 – 30 Questions of 2 Marks and B2 – 15 Questions
of 4 Marks from the following topics:


Visual Reasoning Ability to understand and reconstruct 2D and 3D composition, knowledge
about its composition and technical concepts.


Logical Derivation Ability to decode a situation, composition, and context and generate
meaning. Understanding the minute information hidden in a particular situation and
concluding.

G.K., Architecture & Design General awareness of architecture and design, current
issues, recent episodes, etc., Knowledge about important buildings, historical progression,
innovation in materials and construction technology.


Language Interpretation Ability to correctly & logically generate the meaning of words,
sentences, and understanding about English grammar.

Design Sensitivity Ability to observe record and analyze, people, space, products,
and environment. Critical thinking, reasoning, and ability to identify subtle communications.


Design Thinking Ability to understand semantics, metaphors, problem identification and
definition, analysis of a given situation.

Numerical Ability Basic Mathematics and its association with creative thinking. To unfold a
space with the use of geometry

The primary purpose of NATA is to evaluate a candidate’s aptitude for architecture, which includes testing their drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity, and critical thinking ability.

Format of NATA Entrance Test

  • Mode of Examination: NATA is conducted in both online and offline formats. The drawing test is typically held offline (paper-based), while the cognitive skills test is conducted online.
  • Duration: The test usually lasts for 3 hours.
  • Questions & Marks of Examination:
    Part A – Drawing and Composition Test – Offline Test – 90 Minutes
    A1 – 1 Question – Composition and Color -25 Marks
    A2 – 1 Question – Sketching & Composition (Black and White)- 25 Marks
    A3 – 1 Question – 3D Composition – 30 Marks
    Total 3 Questions – 80 Marks
    Part B – MCQ – Computer-based online Test – 90 Minutes
    B1 – 30 questions x 2 Marks – 60 Marks
    B2 – 15 questions x 4 Marks -60 Marks
    Total 45 Questions – 120 Marks
    TOTAL MARKS: PART – A & PART – B = 200.

Eligibility Criteria for NATA

  • Candidates must have completed or be appearing for their 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) as a subject combination.
  • Alternatively, candidates with a 10+3 Diploma (any stream) recognized by the central/state government with Mathematics as a compulsory subject are eligible.
  • However, the admission to B.Arch., Course shall be made as per the eligibility prescribed in the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 2020 and as stated above herein below Candidates may note that NATA 2024 is the qualifier Aptitude Test for admission to B.Arch. program offered by reputed Indian Universities / Institutions in the country, subject to the fulfillment of eligibility criteria as prescribed by the Council.
  • Eligibility For Admission to 1st year of B.Arch. Program
  • The Council of Architecture with the approval of the Central Government has amended / relaxed the eligibility for admission to 1st year of 5-year B.Arch. Degree Course as prescribed under Regulation 4(1) of the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations 2020, from the academic session 2024-2025 onwards. The amended eligibility is stated as under:
  • No candidate shall be admitted to the architecture course unless she/he has passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with either Chemistry or Biology or Technical Vocational subject or Computer Science or Information Technology or Informatics Practices or Engineering Graphics or Business Studies with at least 45% marks in aggregate or passed 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as compulsory subject with at least 45% marks in aggregate.

Eligibility for Reservations under different categories

  • Reservation as well as relaxation in qualifying marks for the reserved category for the purpose
  • of admission is a prerogative of the Admission / Counselling Authority and does not fall under
  • the purview of this examination.

Qualifying Criteria of NATA 2024

The Qualifying Marks for the NATA 2024 would be Completely based on the following Rules:

  1. A minimum of 20 marks must be secured in PART A
  2. A minimum of 30 marks must be secured in PART B
  3. Overall qualifying marks for NATA 2024 shall be 70 marks out of 200 as an aggregate of Part A
    and Part B.
    A Candidate will not qualify for NATA-2024 unless all three conditions written above are
    satisfied. If the candidate appears in multiple tests, all the previous scores shall appear
    on the scorecard. The best score obtained in all attempts shall be taken as the valid score for
    NATA 2024.
