MPSC Rajyaseva Revised Syllabus 2024

MPSC Rajyaseva Revised syllabus 2024 against the notification of 524 posts: The Maharashtra Public Service Commission, India recruits for various posts through competitive examination. Along with various other competitive examinations, MPSC also conducts the Maharashtra Public Services examination. It is the most important function of MPSC is to examine Maharashtra Public Services here is a detailed explanation of the MPSC Exam Pattern and MPSC Syllabus.

MPSC has updated the MPSC Mains Syllabus, aligning it more with UPSC’s exam pattern. There will now be 9  papers instead of 6 papers, and the total marks will be 1750 marks of the exam instead of 800 marks. The two optional papers are only qualifying, their marks will not affect merit scoring. The revised patterns include one essay paper, four general studies papers, and two papers on an optional subject chosen from a list of 26 subjects. 

There will deduction of 1/4th mark or 25% in the revised one instead of 1/3rd mark previously.

The MPSC state services exam will be conducted in three stages:

  1. Prelims
  2. Mains
  3. Interview

A candidate has to clear one stage in order to be eligible for the subsequent stage, i.e, if you clear the prelims, you move onto the mains, clearing which he/she would be summoned for the final interview stage of the MPSC exam.

  • Here you please note that there is 1/4th negative marking allocated for incorrect answers.
  • The questions on paper-II, decision making questions from Question no 74 to 80 do not have any negative marks for wrong answers.
  • In MPSC, both Paper I and II are considered for the merit ranking for qualifying MPSC mains.
  • The prelims marks are not counted for the final merit list.
  • All the questions are set in English and Marathi language except Compulsory English Papers.

Notes:

  • Candidates should note that they have to choose the medium of answering the papers at the time of submitting the online application for the Main examination.
  • The question papers will be set in Marathi and English languages (except language papers, Marathi literature and subject for which medium has been indicated as English).

MPSC Interview

Candidates who clear the mains exam are summoned for the MPSC interview. In this round, a panel of the MPSC board assesses the candidate for his/her suitability for the administrative career through a personal discussion. This is more like a personality test where apart from knowledge, the candidate’s attributes such as aptitude, presence of mind, communication skills, etc. are evaluated.

Paper I (200 marks)

  2. History of India and Indian National Movement with some weightage to Maharashtra
  3. Maharashtra, India and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of Maharashtra, India and the World.
  4. India and Maharashtra – Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Urban Governance, Public Policy, Rights issues, etc.
  5. Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
  6. General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.
  7. General Science.

The syllabus for the all 9 papers in the MPSC Mains exam is given below.

Paper I – Marathi (300 Marks)

The pattern of questions would be broadly as follows:

  • Comprehension of given passages.
  • Precis Writing.
  • Usage and Vocabulary.
  • Short Essays.
  • Translation from English to Marathi and vice-versa.

This paper will be of a qualifying nature. The marks obtained in this paper will not be counted for ranking.

Paper II – English (300 Marks)

The pattern of questions would be broadly as follows :

  • Comprehension of given passages.
  • Precis Writing.
  • Usage and Vocabulary.
  • Short Essays.

This paper will be of qualifying nature. The marks obtained in this paper will not be counted for ranking.

Paper III – Essay (250 Marks)

In Essay Paper, candidates may be required to write essays on multiple topics. They will be expected to keep close to the subject of the essay to arrange their ideas in an orderly fashion and write concisely.

Paper IV – General Studies 1 (250 Marks)

[Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society with some weightage to Maharashtra]

  • Indian culture will cover the salient aspects of Art Forms, Literature and Architecture from ancient to modern times.
  • Bhakti movement and its philosophy with special reference to saints’ movement in Maharashtra.
  • Modern Indian history from about the middle of the eighteenth century until the present- significant events, personalities, issues.
  • The Freedom Struggle – its various stages and important contributors /contributions from different parts of the country.
  • Post-independence consolidation and reorganization within the country.
  • History of the world will include events from the 18th century such as industrial revolution, world wars, redrawal of national boundaries, colonization, decolonization, political philosophies like communism, capitalism, socialism etc.- their forms and effect on society.
  • Salient features of Indian Society, Diversity of India
  • Role of women and women’s organization, population and associated issues, poverty and developmental issues, urbanization, their problems and their remedies
  • Effects of globalization on Indian society
  • Social empowerment, communalism, regionalism, secularism
  • Salient features of the world’s physical geography.
  • Distribution of key natural resources across the world (including South Asia and the Indian subcontinent factors responsible for the location of primary, secondary, and tertiary sector industries in various parts of the world (including India)
  • Important Geophysical phenomena such as earthquakes, Tsunami, Volcanic activity, cyclone etc., geographical features and their location- changes in critical geographical features (including water bodies and ice-caps) and in flora and fauna and the effects of such changes.

Paper V – General Studies 2 (250 Marks)

[Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations with some weightage to Maharashtra]

  • Indian Constitution- historical underpinnings, evolution, features, amendments, significant provisions and basic
    structure.
  • Functions and responsibilities of the Union and the States, issues and challenges pertaining to the federal structure, devolution of powers and finances up to local levels and challenges therein.
  • Separation of powers between various organs; dispute redressal mechanisms and institutions.
  • Comparison of the Indian constitutional scheme with that of other countries
  • Parliament and State Legislatures – structure, functioning, the conduct of business, powers & privileges and issues arising out of these.
  • Structure, organization and functioning of the Executive and the Judiciary- Ministries and Departments of the Government; pressure groups and formal/informal associations and their role in the Polity.
  • Local self-government.
  • Salient features of the Representation of People’s Act.
  • Appointment to various Constitutional posts, powers, functions and responsibilities of various Constitutional Bodies
  • Statutory, regulatory and various quasi-judicial bodies.
  • Government policies and interventions for development in various sectors and issues arising out of their design and implementation.

Paper VII – General Studies 4 (250 Marks)

[Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude]

This paper will include questions to test the candidates’ attitude and approach to issues relating to integrity, probity in public life, his problem-solving approach and decision making to various issues and conflicts faced by him in dealing with society. Questions may utilise the case study approach to determine these aspects. The following broad areas will be covered:

  • Ethics and Human Interface: Essence, determinants and consequences of Ethics in human actions; dimensions of ethics; ethics- in private and public relationships. Human Values – lessons from the lives and teachings of great leaders, reformers and administrators; role of family, society and educational institutions in inculcating values.
  • Attitude: content, structure, function; its influence and relation with thought and behaviour; moral and political attitudes; social influence and persuasion.
  • Aptitude and foundational values for Civil Service, integrity, impartiality and non-partisanship, objectivity, dedication to public service, empathy, tolerance and compassion towards the weaker sections.
  • Emotional intelligence-concepts, and their utilities and application in administration and governance.
  • Contributions of moral thinkers and philosophers from India and the world.
  • Public/Civil service values and Ethics in Public administration: Status and problems; ethical concerns and dilemmas in government and private institutions; laws, rules, regulations and conscience as sources of ethical guidance; accountability and ethical governance; strengthening of ethical and moral values in governance; ethical issues in international relations and funding; corporate governance.
